Over 234 Miles with Nissan Leaf’s New Battery

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Japan’s second-largest automotive company, will start manufacturing the new Nissan Leaf later this year. With an improved battery system Nissan was able to increase the power by 38 percent and the range by over 100 km.

The 40 kWh lithium-ion battery takes the Nissan’s passengers on a 378 km road trip with one charge, which fulfils most of the user behaviours in europe. An increase of 26 percent in newton meter to 320 nm results in a noticeable faster acceleration.

The new battery design provides a higher energy capacity without enhancing the volume. This means that the battery unit is the same size as the one of the old generation. The individual cell structure of the lithium-ion battery has been optimized by increasing the energy density by 67 percent. In addition the material of the electrodes was reworked in its structure.
